It all depends on whether you want to go with digital or film. The better quality film cameras are cheaper now because of the high prices with really good digital cameras. You could also pick up a used film from someone that switched over to digital.

I am sorta looking for a good digi cam now as well. Something that is around 10mp, with a solid zoom setup, and good features that will help the pictures.

A lot of it is knowing how your camera works though.

My fav. point and shoot camera is the Sony DSC H2. I had the DSC H1 until it was stolen In vegas this past year. It has steady shot, 12xzoom, and its easy to use with more features than the average person needs. And they added a higher quality lens with the H2 which is always nice! They use to cost around $500, but now they are right around $300. Not bad for a camera that can take portfolio pictures & pics of many skylines/action shots/and much more.

I also just bought a Canon Rebel XT. Its a nice starter SLR camera, but if you are looking for zoom you will have to invest in a zoom lens of course. The Rebel starts at $595.

My main camera is a Canon 30D. I love all three and I'm glad I have the two that I have now. I'm going to be getting another Sony camera shortly just for fun pics, zoom pics, etc.

Hope all this helps!
