How smooth does something need to be for powder coat to not show the sanding marks? I know it smooths out but how much? What is the lowest grit I can finish with?
Thanks, Jay

Not sure on grit but Powder coat will highlight everything.

I've had it turn out fine after using 800 grit, but if you want your sh*t baby smooth finish it with some 1200 grit. Wet sanding of course.

It really depends on the metal, the color, and the thickness of the powder you apply. I do a little powder coating from time to time, and i've powdered steel after sanding with 400 grit using a solid color and had great results. If you are using candy/transparent/anodized colors, you HAVE to make sure your surface is completely defect free. PM me and I can send you some "learning experience" pics.
