im working on building a new 4 link and im kicking around the length of the 4 link bars. ive got something in the area of 24" long and i would really like to have them a little longer. i can run the bars backwards and gain up to 32". my question is if its worth it. whats the average 4 link bar length?

backwards causes geometry issues, i would make my own mounts and run them under the cab to make them longer.

ive ran a few setups backwards in the past. however im reusing some mounts on the axle from the previous setup that i want to keep, but ive got all new framework this time. the cleanest and most logical place to mount the bars dictates that the bars need to be 24" to run them forward. however i can run the lower bars backwards to an easier to reach point and make them longer to 32". even if i run the lower bars reverse, i still intend to run the upper bars forward. this is the way my last setup was and it worked great.

question is, is it worth it to try and make the bars that little bit longer?

it isnt worth running the bars reverse just to have longer bars. you would be better off with 24" bars running forward for sure.

and 24" bars arent exactly short. thats about a standard length. hell, the s-10 kits sd.com sells have bars that are only 15" long. and i think seths toyota is about the same.

bottom line, i would sacrifice a little bar length and run the bars correctly, all forward. be sure to set you pinion angle at ride height, have an instant center anywhere in between the cab and radiator, and you'll have yourself a nice setup.

Bryan is right. If I was limited to an 8" long bar, I would still run the 4-link forward. There is no reason to run a reverse 4-link if you are building it yourself.
