Does the whole pedal assembly have to be changed when switching from a manual to an auto? I want to go with an auto 302 in my Mazda just because I'm too lazy and don't want to learn how to drive stick. There is a switch on the clutch that needs to be removed, correct?

Technically you dont have to swap out the pedals. You just have to remove the clutch pedal. Most people swap out the pedal assembly because on an auto the brake pedal is larger.

I think you should just learn how to drive stick. You need to learn anyway.

the wife started teaching me with her 97 Sunfire, but then she sold it and bought a Caravan, so there goes that option. And I don't want to put all this work into the truck, and then learn stick on a mild build 302 and break something.

A cut off wheel will be your best friend on this one. I did a manual to auto swap on my dads truck and we just cut off the clutch pedal. Good luck!

ok, thats good to hear. I already just unbolted the clutch pedal and didn't really feel like buying a new pedal assembly just to get a larger brake pedal. If anything, I'll just cut the brakearm and move the pedal over an inch or so.

Well if you can cut it off and move it over, then just cut it off move it over and take a bigger square metal plate and weld it to the new pedal arm. Then you'd have a bigger brake and it would look good painted!
