unlikely to happen...ford just wants toyota environmental tech.....and thank god they wont merge....would almost make me recosider ever purchasing a newer toyota...'cept that ford makes a good diesel.....accroding to this yahoo article toyota has nothing to gain from ford...ford need the fuel efficiency that toyota has....heres the article

sometimes its a market based decision and not a merger, exporting overweight fords to europe or australia is a sure way to lose money so they partner with a manufacturer that already sells there and they make more profit. In japan there are toyotas that are GM!

It is likely not a merger or acquisition, unless Toyota is buying Ford. Which would likely take too much money for too little at Ford and too small a market share for Toyota to be interested.

This is likely a leverage move to increase the value Ford to prospective buyers. Ford, GM, Chrysler to a lesser extent, they have been spoiled with the domestic loyalty that is going away. I have almost 300k on my 88 BMW and it looks and drives amazing and still hits the redline at least once a day, if it were a domestic with 300k it would be creaking and falling apart and probably be on at least its third engine. I look at my S10 and the dash is huge, wasted space makes it cramped and it is by far the heaviest minitruck I have ever driven, it has 1000 lbs easy on my Mazda. More and more people realize the engineering and efficiency value of the imports, and domestic makers have been too slow to adapt.

My two pennies. Undoubtedly there are some people who will disagree, but I have tried to base my opinion in facts.
