i know how PTC's work, but how do you put a compression fitting on and how is it different from a PTC fitting. what are the advantages of each?

also, is loctite 545 a better alternative to teflon tape/paste? if so, how much should be applied for each fitting? (one drop, alot,...) should the fittings be tightened until there are snug or until they won't turn anymore, can they be overtightened?

sorry for so many questions...

well since no one else has said anything, i would hope you could figure out how to use a push to connect hints the name haha. people have their own preferences. I prefer the compression fittings myself. i just think they have a better seal. to use them you just unscrew the nut and slide your tubing through the nut first, then through the sleeve unless its built into the nut. then just push it onto the fitting and tighten the nut up. i also prefer teflon tape, if you know how to wrap it, it will prevent leaks fine and wont be hell trying to get them back apart like you would with loctite if you ever have to replace a valve or something

my first sentence was "i know how PTC's work". i was just wondering about the compression fittings. thanks for the info though. when you said you prefer teflon tape if you know how to wrap it, what did you mean? what is the correct way to wrap it?

I prefer PTC over compression, they seal good, easier to hook up the line and take back off. Compression seal good to as long as you dont over tighten the nut, but they take longer to hook up and sometimes you have to replace the seleve if you take the line off very much. And Loctite 545 is the FUCKING SHIT! I prefer it over tape and paste ANYDAY! Most say that a drop is enf, but i use a couple of drops and go all the way around the thread. There not really that much harder to get back off than if you use tape. And yes you can over tighten them, just get em' right past snug, but dont put the he-man on them. Sorry for rambling on but you asked. Hope that helped you out.

I use PTC and Compression, but when I'm buying them for myself.. my personal preference is Compression.. they take a little longer, but I actually like putting them together lol.. I like fittings. Sometimes there's a price difference too, or PTC will be your only option in tight spots..

Just be sure to get D.O.T. approved, brass pipe fittings are the same.. but when it comes to the tube fittings, hold a D.O.T. approved fitting next to a Home Depot/Lowes, and you'll see a big difference.

The tips Eric & Tyler posted are great, I want to try some 545 too

The loctite seals wonderfully and does not make it hard to remove, its not like red or blue loctite.
