mig welding is arc welding...and you can get them all to look pretty and do their job. so i say it depends on the time frame and funding.
boyd coddington built his first hotrod with an arc welder.....

well for the techies in the house i would list it like this
GTAWGMAWFCAWSMAW
I have a question, what kind of wire is everyone using on frames w/ mig? Solid core, Flux core, Metal core? I'm just wondering.
depending on the machine im using. i do a lot of work with (gasp!) a Lincoln 135. I use .030 solid wire with 75/25 argon/CO2 gas.
if im using my dads Miller 185, ill use .035 wire on frame stuff. (thats what the machine is already loaded with so im not gonna change it, plus that means i dont have to pay for it!)
sheetmetal work ill use .023 solid wire and the same gas
who cares about boyd he build hot rods with a pen and a desk now
I use solid 23 on the sheetmetal and solid 30 on frame stuff.C25 on both in a lincoln migpack 15
.023 on body .035 on frame w/ millermatic 220. Arc is good like the other dood said for heavy shit, I'd just buy a mig if your lookin to buy a welder cause it seems to be faster as long as you dont have 1lb spools =D a skilled welder can make all 3 of these welds look good. heliarc i would say wins hands down for versatility & craftsmanship.
