Quick valve cover breather question

I just popped in a new breather and i just wanted to make sure that the rubber grommit included is for aftermarket valve covers and not needed with stockers.

there is a side view, it had the grommit on the metal shaft on mine when i got it, there is top down, i know its seems simple but i dont want it to push in to far and cause a lifter issue or something.
