ok, so i've already asked about my exhaust hitting on my 4.3 sonoma, so i went to the shop today. the guy who does my exhaust work recommended that i don't flatten out the piece that's hitting, and run the pipe to cross over behind the transmission and y-pipe it back together. but doing this is going to eliminate the cat. converter. how much harm will this do? or should i try to run the cat. and muffler back to back? i've only had bad luck on the few vehicles i've cut cats out of. my other question, the front of the truck has a floating upper bracket. when we put the truck in the air, on a drive on lift, the upper cup apparently is sliding around. as in, when we saw it, it was rubbing against where t was cut out. what can i do to keep it in place? if i weld it, what would i have to do with the air line?
thanks in advance
Not sure what year yours is but my 94 s10 with the 4.3 CPI ran better without the cat. I had absolutly no problems running without a cat, except the wonderful smell that would make you teer up....lol It was not that bad unless you were in a garage or something. I had mine connect under the rear of the tranny and it worked well. As far as the front cup, you need to find a way to secure it. I would suggest a way to bolt and unbolt it, welding it in is asking for problems if you ever have to remove the bag. My cups had a bolt that went through the upper shock hole.
Your cat is only there for regulation it is there to better purify what is comming out of your exhaust so your not polluting as much. Plus it may be slightly louder. Im not sure about where your exhaust is hitting and your upper cup shouldnt be sliding around so im curious as to where you bought them from?

yeah, we're gonna connect mine under the rear of the tranny too, it's a 94 as well. so that helps. as for the cups, i just picked the truck up mostly as is monday. I believe they are SD.com cups. All I KNOW of the air set up is ART strong arms and firestone bags. i was thinking if i welded it in, i would weld the bolt to the cup first, then weld the cup in place...but i the air line is what i wouldn't figure out. i'm gonna check it out later to see if it's moved around again. I had to reposition it tuesday night after i got it back from mild 2 wild. i'm thinking it came out on their lift and no one noticed it til i got it back to my place. the cup was almost out of the perch then. so maybe i didn't get it in place right since it was late when i did it. i don't know. where did you get the cups that bolted in?
ok, i found some on suicidedoors i'm gonna order tomorrow
look to see how many o2 censors it has, if theres only one in front of the cat, then you can remove it without much trouble....
as for the bag cups, ive never bolted one in before, i never have any trouble out of them......
if there is an 02 sensor behind the cat, taking it out itll run like poop. the rear o2 sensor tells the pcm if the cat is working right. also if that o2 sensor isnt in the same place factory will throw the reading off also.

it's pre OBDII, only one sensor. so i should be fine. thinking of it, that's why cutting out the last one ran like shit for me, it had a post cat sensor. that was back in high school though.
