cleaning up the engine gunk

how do you guys initially clean all of the crap-grease etc. off of the engine compartment?

pressure washer?

brake cleaner

Go to the do it yerself car wash, hose it down with degreaser, then pressure wash the shit out of it. Keep water out of your distributor.

If its still not clean enough, use some carb cleaner, or oven cleaner and some elbow grease.

black bottle ,formula 88 works the best rinses off clean too,auto parts stores have it

Brake parts cleaner.
Orileys brand is the best I have found.
