I seem to do most of my welding on voltage setting "3" with a wirespeed of 35-40. It seems like I get good penetration. I would like to use "4" but get crap results from it on the same parts. I increase the wire speed with it but it doesn't do as good of a job. any idea why?
maybe its hot enough- thought I would check heres an example of what i get on "3". it marks the plates - you can see the welded area in the painted pic
thanks

what size wire are you using.

i use a miller 210 and love it. depends on the thickness what temp its set on and the wire speed.

i use the same welder and those settings at work. that combo seems to give the best results too. anything higher than that and i seem to run too hot. i use it on my truck a lot too and it seems to work great. hope that helps a little

on 1/4" i put it on 4, 50. then on anything between 1/8"-3/16" ill usually turn it down to 3, 40.

I belive I am running the .030 wire.
Tony- i noticed that the 4,50 gets a little "splaty" like the edge of the weld looks like solder sitting on the metal and didn't penetrate

on my millermatic 200,.030 wire, i got the heat at 4, wire speed at 49 welds what ever i want no problem. if im welding 2x3 for a fraem, ill bump her up into high and burn in some metal
