Some of you may remember when my younger brother had a problem with the DMV after being pulled over for running a stopsign then the VINs not matching up (newer style dash swap/cab swap/new doors/stock floor frame).. He got all that straightened out.
Well, now.. he traded that truck for a '96 S-10, and today went to get it insured/registered. They said he can't register it because the VIN plate is bent upwards a little.
My brother says (since I havent looked at it yet) that it looks like the dash is cracked/bubbled from sitting in the heat.. but the DMV guy said "No, this can't be the original VIN if it's bent.." so we're clueless again as to what to do..
Just figured I'd post and see if anyone might know. He has the title, so shouldnt the VIN just match it, and in the computer show a 1996 S-10? that's where I'm confused. That could have proved it right there.. but the guy said (since the truck was repainted) since the doors don't have any stickers/plates in them.. that he can't prove it. This truck isnt stock floored, original engine.. so isn't this not a big deal, engine/frame/dash/title should all match?
Thanks in advance for any help..

Well shit. I was gonna say check the doors but you said it was repainted...
So all I can think of is show previous registrations from the last owner or something.

Does it still have an original option label in the glove box? If the vin matches from that they usually can't refuse it.

tell the guy at the DMV that a) he's not a cop and b) to stop being such a dickbag. Then tell him to get out his vin locator book and find the vin on the frame and in the engine compartment and then punch him in his swollen cooch. MAN I hate people who are nothing that act like something.

I was about to edit and say that theres at least a dozen other ways he can verify the vin tag.

a portion of it is stamped in the frame, and in the engine as well. tell him to check that shit, then demand an apology when realizes that he fucked up.
