my brother and i have a bet going on.... we both agree that disk brakes look better .. but which perform and stop better? i already know some of you are going to say duh disk brakes because why would you see so many people doing disk conversions... but what are the facts?!?

Disc-Brakes, hence, that's why you see kits for a "rear-disc brake conversion". Better stop times, etc.

Disc brakes work better, but its not necessary to have 4 wheel discs. I've driven some 4 wheel drum cars, and it was pretty sketch. Brakes locked up easily. But others stopped just fine.

well a big difference with the disc brakes are, you don't see the brake fade like you do with drums. on the older cars with 4 wheel drums , do a couple hard stops and the brakes heat up and all of a sudden you have shitty/to no braking until they cool off, disc cool quicker and maintain i higher level of preformance for a longer period of time during aggressive braking.

Disc just because they are easier to work on and they cool much better which leads to less brake fade. Usually they are also cheaper to replace, no spring kits or nothing.

i agree with kyle i have drums all the around on my hearse and it stops okay with 20's until you stop hard a few times and you almost have nothing.

The Datsun had a bad rear wheel cylinder, so I just unhooked the rear brakes completely back in my broke days-
With only two drums to stop with, it was VERY scary, but it was great for burnouts!!
Discs cool faster, are cheaper to service, and don't require adjustment as they wear. They tend to weigh less than drums, too.
