so i was at work today and it was lightning and i pondered the thought *can my truck be struck by lightning due to the fact that the rockers lay on the ground. would the tires ground it? what would happen if it did get struck? just somthing to think about.

if your rockers are on th ground, then you will be grounded. The idea that tires ground a vehicle is a myth. Tires are made of rubber, an insulator.

Still, your truck will probally be fried if it is struck.

It may be a myth, but it makes me feel better to think about it working when I'm having to drive in it!!!!

Living in Florida I saw a minivan get struck on 95 on my way back from Orlando. Fried every computer in the vehicle and popped all 4 tires. But the occupants were unharmed.

The metal body/frame is a much better conductor than your body is, so generally, you my feel a tingle, but otherwise, you should be fine because electricity takes the path of least resistance.

The tire insulator thing is bullshit, our worktruck got hit about a week ago, it was sittting next to a fence and we guess it ran off of it, fried the damn radio and now all the lights on the dash are on, they won't go off, the alternator whines like hell, but the truck cranks and runs fine, still going to cost a good bit to get everything back right though
