Is it Worth It?

So i picked up a 96 S10 yesterday. It kinda just happened. Paid $1500 for it. Its a 2.2, 5-speed, 60k original miles, traditionally body dropped to the rockers, firestone bags, 2 link, AIM valves, AIM compressor, two 3 gallon tanks, stock wheels, some things shaved. It needs a lot of work. Pretty much a new bed, driver side fender, hood, and some various body work. Suspension seems somewhat solid. Has some issues with the brakes and needs a new y-pipe welded in. Interior is trashed.

My question is do you think its worth it to put money into it? Im guessing 2-3 grand i would be able to get all the issues worked out, new body parts, and in primer. Maybe some used wheels. Should i do it or dump it and use that $3500 to $4500 for something else?

i do, for 3500 you'll have a bagged truck with 60,000 miles

thats called the buyers fallacy, thinking that they will somehow be more successful selling something than the person they bought it from.

If it needs that much work, you might be able to better your position by a couple hundred, not by a couple grand. Everyone and their grandma has a bagged or bagged and bodydropped S10, and there are a LOT of them on the market. Ask 555 on here, who has had his SHOW READY bagged and bd S10 for sale for 6500 for SIX MONTHS without a buyer, what he thinks your chances are of getting 3500-4500 for a beat up project that needs brakes.

I think its worth the 1500 you paid, but you can squash making money on an S10 project, there is just too many of them around.

Yeah if i put the money into it i dont want to resell it. I want to keep it as a 2nd vehicle. Im really leaning towards keeping it. Its gonna be a long project and take away from my other truck, but i think a bagged and body dropped truck with 60k miles on it for 3-4 grand is pretty good.

yep I see it now. I did read it, it was worded funny, like he was going to sell it for 3500-4500. My apologies.

Learn to fix it, buying something is no where near as satisfying as working on something. S10 parts are cheap, you could rebuild the whole truck for under 3k.

dont listen to people on here, i ve had plenty of s10 trucks if you keepit simple and buy things right like you seem to have already done then you can always get your money back. sometimes a full show truck scares people away. not every one wants that. some people may just want a static drop, or just want air ride etc. that truck is worth more than 1500 in parts alone. plus it has low mileage. alot of show trucks i have looked at became a show truck because it had high mileage, was in a major accident or had alot of serious issues. i think you made a good move! drag on!

for 1500.00 you got a fairly good deal hell a guy can sometimes pick up good body panels at the local wrecker for next to nothing or in the local buy and sell paper. a guy could pick up most of the things he needs for cheap.i know some guys who have had there engines blow up or trans. go and they sell the whole truck for like 500.00 . just thought keep it and drive it have fun
