I have recently been hired on as a Project Engineer for the Corps of Engineers and I am having to move down to New Orleans. I have no clue where to look for housing especially since Katrina hit. Can anyone please give me some suggestions on some good places to stay...I dont mind having to commute to work as long as it isnt over 30 miles.

why would you move there? I mean yah, jobs are readily available in your field, but the coast has a 160% chance of getting the same size or bigger hurricane than Katrina. just not the smartest move in my opinion.

Its not all about the money to me...I am interested in the type of work that I will be doing down there...the decision to move to New Orleans has been made...I am trying to get help on finding housing.
Best bet is to find something on the Northshore...Slidell, Mandeville, Covington area. The only downside is the commute. Housing that wasn't damaged around New Orleans is going for a premium. My house was flooded in Metairie because the pumps weren't turned on and I decided to stay and rebuild. Plus, my wife landed the head nursing job for the Harrah's Casino clinic. We could have moved to another city but anywhere you move you're still going to have natural disasters such as hurricanes, tornados, flooding, earthquakes, etc.

if you want my i used to live in quail creek subdivision in mandeville. my friends from their said mandeville didnt get hit nearly as hard as the rest of the place. slidell is only 20 mins away but they got mauled. mandeville is cool cause its out of the city a good bit. my dad worked in metarie when we were there and his commute was about 40 mins. the causeway is 75% of that trip. good luck.

lol yah, chris has the best idea so far, cuz it WILL happen again, if not again this year. Its not that I dont realize wherever you move mother nature can send something your way, but my god, your going front line in a battle you know your going to lose if it gets played.
