to drill titanium.. depending on the size of yr drill bit you have to keep it fast probably bout 1300 rpm should be ok.. and flood it with some type of coolant. dont use oil because its flammable.. and it is easy to catch titanium on fire.. it has a burning point of 1200degrees..
im a machinist for Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and i machine titanium regularly.... i've turned titanium sleeves, Flange covers, shims, milled square chaulks then i've drilled bolt hole patterns in thru 3inch thick flanges... all you have to worry about is catch it on fire because it is tough to put out.. a regular fire extingusher or water wont put it out..
He's right. On the carrier if a jet comes in with "Hot Brakes" or locked up then it's a nightmare and there have been times the navy has to throw the jet over the side into the ocean and deep six it because there is nothing to put it out but sand and time. Dip hot titainuim in water and it can explode so keep it cool and the bit aswell........
