Hey guys, for the last 2 weeks or so i have been blowing fuses for the compressor like every 3 days. I have a Air zenith running to the battery (i only have one battery) I've been running a 10 gauge wire all the way through w/ a 30amp fuse. I also have a toggle switch to turn it on and off. What could be causing the fuse to blow? Any info will be appreciated. thanks
workd best with a 4g wire from the bat to the realy with the fuse in that side and then a 10g from the relay to the comp.
Check how many amps the compressor can pull, check your amp rating on your toggle switch. I had the same problem.
Im pretty sure that thing draws more than 30 amps. Im sure its not as much as a viar does.
go to your local stereo shop and t a fose holder for 10 gauge wir it will hold fuse that look like your standard fuse but alot bigger and the fses go from like 40 amps up to 100 amps or you can get an a&l fuse which goes from like 100 t0 250 but find out how many amps you comp is pulling
My buddy has been having an ongoing problem with AZ at his shop. The last 3 that they installed were eating 100 amp fuses like nothing. He had 4g from the battery to the Square D with an inline fuse), and a 0g ground. They ended up sending the comps back and getting new ones.
an air zenith pulls 40 amps...
do the math.
That toggle swith must be the size of a rubics cube if its rated for 40 amps.
I would run 8 guage for 1 comp and 4 guage for 2 and you definitely need a large relay or continuos duty solenoid. The only load that should be passing through the toggle switch and the pressure switch is the load of the solenoid coil.
I RUN MY 2 AZ UNITS USING AM RV BATTERY ISOLATOR SOLENOID (BOUT 20 BUCKS AT YOUR RV SUPPLY STORE) IT HAS A SINGLE POLE SINGLE THROW AND IS RATED AT 90 AMPS. GET ONE!!! WIRE THE TOGGLE TO THE SOLENOID'S INPUT SO YOU'RE NOT TRYING TO PULL 30 AMPS THROUGH A TOGGLE. THEN FUSE BEFORE THE SOLENOID WITH A 50 AMP FUSE, 100 IF RUNNING TWO. AND YOU'LL BE FINE.
