Help! Some kind of electrical problem

The other day I went to start my truck, and it made the familiar clicking sound as if the battery was dead somehow.. I checked to make sure I didnt leave my headlights on, battery terminals were still tight and my CD player, etc would still come on/valves worked.

Figured maybe the battery was just too low to start, so a friend hooked up cables to jump me off.. sat there for a min, didn't help. We decided to push start, but right before we did I tried to start it once more and it started fine.

Started fine ever since, maybe once or twice it did click a few times, and I'd try again and it was fine.

Today, same thing happened.. but then I tapped the starter solenoid and the truck made NO noise, no clicking. Waited a minute, tried again and my door chimes came on/cd player came on, when I pressed the brake both of those went dim though. Pushed my truck backwards with my foot out the door, maybe 10 feet.. slowly, and it started right up.

Im not too familiar with starter type problems.. just never had one go out on me really, does this seem to be a connection somewhere, a short, or possibly the solenoid or starter itself? Any help any of you can suggest.. I'd really appreciate it. Sorry for the novel, just tryin to explain it in detail lol.

Damn mang....my first thought was change out the starter...i had the same shit happen with my beater nissan, i wouldnt get a noise at all and then i try to push start it in sandles, then my wife got in and started it right up....THOUGH, i would check for grounds...like the one on your starter and then the one from the battery....but my shade tree mechanic ways would say starter...good luck....shit let me know, i will pack the kid and go help you, im rightdown tha street....

Sounds like the starter or solenoid.

My stepdad happened to have a battery tester.. at first it said BAD, then we tried again and it had full charge and my truck started.. weird lol.

If the battery is the problem.. would it still start fine if hooked to my moms brand new battery through cables? I figured it would but still no luck.. I have a battery in my t-bird Im gonna swap in tomorrow after work.

Thanks for the help guys, ill post an update

it sounds like either a fusible link or solenoid, when the fusible link went out on my 97 nissan maxima,it did the same thing

If you relocated your battery check your grounds.

Mine did the same thing and my grounds werent very good. It ended popping a fusible link in the fuse block under the hood like 4 times before i figured it out.

Ricky my truck was doing this when I first got it. I replaced the started becuase the stock one was actually dead. But it still did not start. Nothing had any power whatsoever. Chased all the wires to the starter and everything was fine. Went to turn the key again and the dash lights lit up. Eventually it turned over. But it was inconsistant. I ended up getting a new power wire for the battery, and a new ground fromt eh battery to the frame. It was more consistant but still not so much. When I swapped my motor mounts, I found the ground that goes from the frame to the motor was frayed pretty bad, and was hardly connected. I replaced it and I hooked the battery up, and it now consistantly turns the lights on.

Im gonna double check some more grounds, and since I have an extra battery in the t-bird might as well swap to check that. Sounds exactly like what happened to you tho seth..
