yo. Im looking into powdercoating my rear axle on my newest project. My question is, do you think i will have to strip all the gears out of the pumpkin when its getting done. Or do you think its safe to bake the part with the gears all in the rear end. Im gonna pull all the braking stuff and axles off the rear axle, but would rather not have to take all the gearing and what not out of the pumpkin.
Anyone got any idea about this?

your gonna have to pull it apart if you don,t your axle seals and pinion seals are gonna dry out and get brittle and the frist time you run it your gonna have leaks

yeah, im pretty sure when they do powercoating they bake it at like 400 or 500 degrees, that would definately do some harm to seals and rear end grease.

when they are cooking it, not only will it do some harm to the seals, if there is any fluids in there left over, it will burn and start to smoke out the oven. not a pleasant smell either.so yes take it apart to have it powdercoated

I had mine powder coated after it was narrowed and hot tanked. Would not recommend leaving it all together. Might take more time, but will be correct in the end.
