Tonneau latch question/idea

Just put on a checkmate soft cover last nite, but can't/won't use their latching system because my gate handle is on the inside now too...

Anybody have ideas on what to use as a latch that would keep the cover laying still?

My only idea so far was magnetic cabinet latches, but not really sure if they make them big enough to hold the cover down firmly. It stays put pretty well unless I hit a decent size bump, but then it bounces up a few inches and I want that to stop before i paint the bed so it won't scratch things up...

Any ideas???
