i shortened my rear end on my dakota. it wasn't that bad, i just cut the tubes at the houseing. cut the tubes to length made a sleve that fit tight into both sides, welded it all together and bought some mosier axles.

ive done it, its not sooo much of a pain in the arse..... just cut the length you need... and make sure everything is completly straight and squared up aagin.after that go to mosier.com and get their number... call them and find out what you need to do to get some new shortned axles from them and go from there.. dont try and shorten your actual axle yourself... wont work ....

from what i hear the axle needs to be lathe welded in order for everything to be concentric

i know theres a shop here that does work for me that only charges 100 bux, for that its not worth the headache, because if its off alittle, you can add toe or camber to the housing.

Do you guys gut your rear end before taking it to the shop or let them worry about it. dont you have to shim the gears sometimes?
