Tailgate idea...

Hey guys I have a 97 chevy fullsize 4x4. I have completly welded my tailgate shut.I work at a chevy dealership in the body shop, one of the guys there did it, and did a great job, but i live down about a 3/4 mile long dirt road. and since it flexes, i keep getting stress cracks. SO what I am thinking is cutting in a little tailgate almost like a triangle. Big up top small at the bottom. Theres pics of the ass end in my profile. let me know what you think. Sorry for being so long and thanks for the help

Yah that could be cool if the triangle was proportioned right. You could also think about adding some bracing on the back side.

well yeah it would of course be proportioned. and i do have bracing on the other side. In both corners. And the tops are radiused

Are the welds cracking? Or just the filler over them? Cause you could always try leading that area if its just the filler.
