need help guys. door popper has been acting eratic for awhile now(getting annoying), and i cant take it anymore.problem is only on drivers side, and only acts up when i start my truck. it pops once after i start it,waits maybe 2 seconds and pops twice back to back.it doesnt do it every start, and never consistant. but it sucks when every time i start it, i have to leave door open for a second to make sure it doesnt pop back open. its been doing this for about 4-5 months now,and i cant tolerate it anymore. i just started to make a effort to find out what it is. chased every wire(no shorts). its grounded fine. only thing left to consider is the relay, but wouldnt it do it all the time?? why just when ignition turns? the only problem i find in threads is about poppers draining batterys, nothing like this. anybody have any idea, im so open to any suggestions, not sure what brand they are. they have always worked fine, just this unwanted pop.
i have no problem changing the relay , just wanted to make sure i dont replace it if i dont have to. most of the time relays go bad and dont work.if it was bad wouldnt it do it driving down road, and not just once upon ignition?
please cure this stupidity!

buy a new relay and soleniod and call it a day, i usually look at it like this, has the past 4 or 5 months of inconvenience worth 43 dollars? dont think so. paying for convenience is a nice thing to do sometimes, if you can.

i hear ya,i will end up replacing it. hoping maybe it was something else, or to see if anybody else has heard of anything like this. i assumed it was maybe my hidden switch under the truck messed up so i put it off, i finally pulled the switch off only to find that wasnt it.and i guess i should have said its not a actual popper, its just the solenoid that pulls latch down.

your problem is the ignition wire... the way you have it hooked up. buy a pre-wired kit from AVS same time and money ... and headaches

ok, i am going to sound way off base here, but hear me out. First a question to you: what type of alarm is running your poppers? I ask this because it sounds like its in the programming of the remote function. the way that it does the same thing almost every time. If your installer hooked the output up to a doorlock output on the alarm to "add a channel" to your alarm, this problem can be easilly fixed with a simple programming of the alarm brain. If you can tell me what alarm you are using I can tell you the program rutine that will "HOPEFULLY" soolve your problem.
Most likely when you had the alarm installed it didnt do this problem, but the alarm brain/keyless unit can loose programming anytime the battery of the truck goes dead or low. Hope this makes sense, I just would hate to see you spend $$$ on a part that is only doing what the alarm brain is programmed to do

to clarify myself a little. say if your alarm is a DEI unit(hornet viper automate clifford...etc) I can hook up an unit so that when you disarm or "unlock" the doors your drivers door will pop open automatically, it is simply wiring up a relay to perform that function... meanwhile, channel 2 of the alarm(trunk release normally) could then pop the passenger side door. well... in real life that doorlock output would lock and unlock your actual door in a car with doorhandles. when you start the car it would lock the car doors, and unlock the doors when you shut the car off... its called ignition controlled doorlocks, and that feature of the alarm can be turned on or off.
This is how I believe your remote door poppers are hooked up and you just need to re-program your alarm or stop by the stereo shop and let them do it. Hope this helps, or at the least makes sense....sorry to ramble on, just trying to help

sweet, now im gettin thoughts. i do not have a alarm, its just the poppers. it was on the truck when i bought it, not sure what kind it is. only way i describe brand is gonna be worthless, 2 black relays taped together behind fuse box side dash. and the blue remote transmitter under steering column.
not sure if it would be ignition problem only because they will not pop when truck running, and it doesnt do it every time. but i could and probably be wrong. i thought maybe i accidently programmed the remote by hitting certain buttons, but i dont have a book . dont want to make a bad problem worse.
i am really happy with whatever brand they are(has blueish clear remote cases and transmitter) , been on the truck for 5 years. pops 1st time every time, and dont have the commom problems everybody else has like not popping and draining the battery. keep ideas coming, i appreciate all of them.
if all else fails ask a minitrucker!!

mrbmax, how do you normally pop open the doors, is it hooked to that alarm you mentioned? is it on a different remote system? I am just thinking its a simple fix. as you can tell, I am an alarm installer and there is many ways to make an alarm do something, and many side effects. if you can figure out a way to post a pic of your remote, I can head you down a right path. that is if your doors are controlled by remote.
The easy fix would be to just put the doors on a hidden button and do away with the alarm if its a cheapo you cant find anymre. but easy does not mean safe(someone can find the button)

its not a alarm.its just 2 remotes for door poppers. i had a hidden button on it , but took it off thinkin it was at fault. since that wasnt problem im going to put it back on. i really appreciate your efforts (yourbabysdaddy).where is griffin, im in chattanooga tn.
