Are you sure you are getting gas out of the tip at all times? I had a similar problem with my lincoln. The tube/hose that carries the wire/gas had came loose out of the front of the welder. Depending on how the tube was orientated, the gas would either come out of the tip, or straight out of the front of the welder. In my experience, the gas out of the tip should be able to blow away small debris(ie. saw dust from mdf). Hope this helps and good luck!

That's funny. When I worked at J.W. Fabrication, they told me the same thing about the gas blowing saw dust. I just told them, "I can read the damn gauge!". I guess they meant in circumstances like this when your unsure of gas delivery at all.

check on the warranty if its that new. also have u checked for debris in the holes were the gas comes out in teh nozzle? if definatly sounds like the trigger. unless those use a valve inside the machine to send gas to the tip.

I called Miller about it when it first started. They wanted me to ship it to them for inspection. Told me 6-8 weeks before they will tell me how much it will cost to fix.

Where the gas comes out is fine its all clean. I know to check all that stuff. When I pull the trigger I can hear the gas valve in the welder open up, and I can smell the gas at the tip. But sometimes it just won't weld correctly.

are you welding outside? is there any wind? if you pull the trigger when your not welding, can you always hear gas come out? the tip is clean?

I'm welding inside. I even closed the garage door to help. But I'm welding on the table in the back, 20 feet from any wind source.

you can smell it, but can you feel it? Also did you happen to get a new bottle anytime before this started happening?

Yeah I can feel it too.

I've been through roughly 4 or 5 bottles while this was happening.

Hey Seth, I'm working on a buddies truck right now, and he has a Miller 175. His does the same exact think. The weld kind of bubbles up like there's no gas. Last time I worked on it I was ready to burn the bitch down. I would degrease the metal, grind it, and wire wheel the spot i'm welding and it would still happen. The guys at the Miller store told me it could be bad gas, bad wire, or a bad trigger. I can weld over undercoating with my 210 with no problem.

Don't suppose it's a duty cycle circuit? Makin' the welder quit prematurely. Mine acts up when I achieved max duty cycle. Kinda sputters.

Yeah I got all my metal spotless. I always clean everything nice, champher it, and remove any coatings like hot rolled comes in. It still acts up. Its definitely not my gas or my wire. I've had the same results with different wire and different gas multiple times.

Guess I'll have to go get a new trigger. Sucks because no welding shops are open Sundays, and tomorrow is the first day I'd be able to put in a full day on the Mazda...
