Cutting The Pinch Weld To Lay Body

Anybody cut the pinch weld and have to weld the two pieces together? I just cut it, and boy did i do a sloppy job cutting. Now i'm trying to weld it up and some gaps are two big. Any suggestions? I was thinkin about thin angle iron to cover the whole thing...
