kazaa substitute???

well i just tried to start kazaa and it didnt work. it said i have to pay 29.95 to sign up and i went to download.com where i got it and it wasnt on there any more. i was just wondering if there are any other free websites for downloading music if so what are they. also if anyone does pay for a site which one is the best?
