Engine swap ideas for 88 D50 4x4

I was toying around with the idea of putting a new engine in my truck. Its a 1988 Ram 50 4x4 with a 5 speed manual. the stock motor in the 2.6
i was thinking about dropping a 6g72 into it but im open to other ideas for a new engine. Would a 6g72 bolt right in without having to modify anything else too much? if not, what engines would? any suggestions or tips would be a big help. Thanks!

you are in luck. it is kinda rare, but you can get a 5spd 4x4 trans in this country that fits the 6g72/74/75 V6 engine family. i would have to import a transmission for a bolt in 5spd for my 87 ram 50 2wd if going to a v6. only other choice for either of us is different trans or adapter plate. the 4 cylinder transmissions are not very strong.
