EGR valve

I have an 86 d50 2.0 liter. the EGR valve light is on but the valve functions just fine it passed smog so I cant seem to figure out why its on i'm thinking it might be electrical... any ideas???

thanks (: after I take off the speedo will the switch be obvious?
