emissions

Hi guys I did my emissons test today for my 89 mitsu 2.0 and it failed. Every thing passed but the hc and co. Does an
yone know what I can do to make it pass? Thanks

what state are you in because you shouldnt have to pass a emissions test since it is a 89.Check your plugs and see if you are running rich,if you are check carb for trash.Does it smoke during start up or during driving conditions?

No smoke when start up it runs good just failed the hc and co.. ill have to check the plugs but if its running to rich what can I do? Thanks I live in colorado

my new girl i bought a week ago. live in cali..damn carbs.

I tried EVERYTHING on my '87 2.6. It's what got me over to this site. In the end I simply had to replace the cat. Hated to do that since it was the original and I only had to get it thru emissions one more time. I got a cat somewhere online for about $130. Took 30 minutes to replace. Passed w/flying colors.
