What up guys... i got another question??? do any of you know anything about auto air conditioning??? i tried to do the ol el-switheroo R134 conversion in my mitsu and my system dont work or im doing it wrong.. Not sure how to test my compressor..it doesnt seem to kick on when i hit the button and i dont see the clutch turning.. when i did the conversion i noticed that all the new freon was coming out of the drier... there is a nut on the side right under the sight glass,on the drier it has a tiny hole (factory that way) and when i shot the freon it came out of that hole??? is this might be because the drier is clog or either my compressor is not working... it gets extremley hot here in texas and i need some cool air.. anyway any help would be appreciated. thanks

sounds like you have a leak and your compressor is bad. you need to repair where the freon leaked out first. if your converting your a/c to the new freon you need to do a vaccum to take out all the old freon first, then you need to replace the dryer with a new one and instal some new pag oil. then you will probably need to replace the fitting where you actually fill up the system with freon to the new fitting ( just a convience really you can get a fitting that will allow you to instal the new freon with the old fitting). then you can install the new freon. much cheaper to do it yourself than taking to a shop. my aunt has a 90 mazda and wanted to convert to the new freon (r-134a)
and they wanted to charge her 1000 bux! also food for thaught r-134a dose not get as cold as r12 so thats something to think about.

Conversion kits are availible, I think they run like 80 at napa. Comes with the fittings, oil, and refrigerant. Only thing is that it comes with the stop leak stuff I wouldn't trust. I just grabbed everything ala cart. Fittings, r134a, ester oil, and the tool. Opened shraider valves and blew compressed air in one side, then the other. Poured ester oil in as valves were still out and put on the valves and fittings. Hooked up the tool to bottle of r134a and equalized pressure till low pressure swith kicked the compressor on.

The way I did it is not recomended by anyone or any shops but I didn't have any leaks or care about procedure. Do the right thing and take it to a shop so they worry about the leaks and find all of them instead of guessing and throwing parts at it.

how would i vaccumm the old out or is that something i would have to take and have done??? if take it to a shop would any of you know or guesstimate the cost on that?? thanks again for the help.. i will try a shop first... they have a lot of free a/c service checks maybe i could see what they have to say as well... much thanks guys..

Can always pick up a second hand complete kit minus the reciever/drier that's runs perfect. Still gotta taken to a shop though for fill em up. R12 is expensive and gets colder then retro r134a but it still gets cold, just takes a little time to get there.

So a second hand?? what would that be?? a bone yard deal or is that something they say aftermarket?? thanks ryan

Yup, bone yard or known friend. Not too sure about aftermarket kits. If you can get a working second hand complete a/c system that works that you can transfer to your car then perfect. If the only leak you got is on one of the lines, sourcing a brand new line will have to be custom or dealer. Not too much auto stores carry r12 refrigerant components. That's why they are expensive to repair at shops.
