Newb. 87 max needs faster engine. Help

Hi, steve-o here. I just got an 87 mighty max for $800, clean body, flawless interior, new tires, running, California smogged, and a box of brand new parts water pump, engine and tranny mounts, timing belts, timing mounts. Basicly I got a great deal. But... Little max isn't fast enough and I want to build a clean little street truck. What my options for a engine that won't be to difficult but will give me enough power to show my friends there civics can't touch my max. If I posted this in the wrong spot on the site I apologize. get a conquest or starion and put the drivetrain in it
