need help with 2001/2002 dually info

ive been on the search this past month for a 01/02 chevy c3500 drw or a gmc sieraa 3500 drw.. and im wondering any little thing i should look for specifically as far as defects or typical things to go bad on these trucks. any help appreciated.

if your looking for a d-max. try to get one that has had the injectors replaced. the first gen lb7 d-max had a few flaws that they fixed in the 03 early 04 models. dont get me wrong, the lb7 is a awsome platform. just injector issues. also make sure the tranny has been serviced and kept up with. big time if its had a programer. the eraly allisons were easy to limp.

if going with the 8.1 vortech you should be ok. gutless compared to the d-max. just your normal things there with a high mileage gas motor.

gauge clusters sometimes spaz and the electric window motors go VERY slow.

other then that i think you will have a very good truck on your hands. and if you get a chevy its my favorite hd front end ever.

i'd love a dmax.. but they are hard to come by. all i find are 8.1's with 5 speed allisons.. so you're saying be careful if its equipped with the allison trans then? i appreciate all the help you've given, thank you.

another question about the 01/02's do they only come in white or black?

only if its a d-max with the alli. the 8.1 wont limp the alli with a programer unless it had a blower and was raced alot. you should be ok with a gas motor. just the upkeep like i said of a high mileage gas motor. i mean mine is a 07 d-max and i have 70k on mine and i only drive it to shows and on the weekends. so i couldnt fathum how many a 01-02 has. yea, they had to come in black and white. be careful as to where they came from to. you want one that either pulled on the highway most its life or one you know the owner from. a work truck or farm truck will be wore out.

oh okay cool thanks for the help josh.. i've been keeping an eye out for a 01/02 with mileage under 100k. i found one with 77k for the right price. but carfax didn't show any info on the truck until 2003 which it said it had 256 miles on it. im wondering if there was an out of state accident or something with that truck. brought it to california and registered it here to make it a clean title. i didnt bother with it as the whole carfax looked fishy to me. i looked at one prior to this that stated clean title. but i checked the frame out and it had been on a frame rack before. it's really hard to find a good one.. i've been searching on craigslist with little to no luck.
