ok first off the is my last post of the month i really have to upgrade its only the 3rd and im already out of my 20 posts. secondly what the hell does a stall converter do. how is a 2200 different from a 3000 stall converter and the reason i ask this is because i have a chance to buy a rebuilt 350 with either a 2200 or a 3000 stall converter. so any help from anyone would be greatly appreciated.

a stall is the rpm an engine stalls. for example, step on the brake, hit the gas, and when the tire breaks loose and starts to spin (burn out) thats the stall. most "Stock" vehicles are about 1500 rpm. so when you let your foot off the brake at a light on a hill you dont roll. most luxury vehicles have a higher stall so they "take" off from a light smoothly, and you dont feel a harsh shift. if you have a 3000 rpm stall in your trans, and your motor at 45 mph is spinning only 2200 rpms, then your slipping the entire time, like a slipping clutch in a manual trans. race cars have higher stall convertors so they can rev the motors high (trans brake) and then when the go light is lit, they can launch at a high rpm, and keep the motor int he power band.. my car has a 4500 advertised stall rpm. not a very freindly street set up, but im not a very frienddly street racer...

get the lower stall unless you really want to race a lot...

not sure about that slipping while doing 45 mph deal though... never heard that before, but the whole idea behind them is to get a stronger launch from motors that make power in a higher rpm range.
