Primer Question and procedure ? Help!

I need to know what is a good primer ...to use, and it needs to be a flat black like the old hotrods...... another question what grit sand paper do i use to sand off the stock paint so i can paint the primer on...

I am about to do all my body work and need some help ... I appreciate any help ...
