help with motor

i am thinking about buying a 86 b200 ex-cab but it smokes bad till it warms up then it goes away and run fine expect the valves chatter alittle bit, i was told by my dad it smokes cause it needs new valves seals is this ture if not does anyone know another reason and what is a noraml price to get a head rebuild done
