does anyone know where i can get the equivalent to a 1/4" thread 3/8" compression fitting that has metric threads? i need to replace one on a train horn.

i know i can google it, but i don't know what brand would be good and not give me any problems. thanks in advance.

Find a swagelok or parker dealer, they will have them or be able to get them.

ok, buyfittingsonline.com doesn't have metric fittings. mcmaster carr has what i need but the fittings are around $30 to $40 a piece.

so, can i really retap the threads? i don't understand how that would work, since the new threads would be cut through the existing ones. and if i try that and it doesn't work, then im screwed and won't be able to use the train horns. could someone explain how this would work.

you would have to go with a larger fitting size so that when you drill with the required tap size, you drill out the threads completely so you have a fresh hole to tap. it sounds to me that if your metric threads are roughly the same size of a 1/4 npt, you will have to increase the size to a 3/8 npt. You might also be able to do something with a Helicoil thread repair kit.
