I don't have time to go into it right now cause i've been up 22 hours, but got there at 10, spent 5 hours getting lunch, spare, rounding up parts, etc, took off, went to Wal Mart to get some emergency stuff, came out, raining like hell, no wipers, got rain-x but did'nt have time to put it on, had to sit for a while, finally got ready to leave, bout to get on interstate, notice no power steering, pull over, edc belt, power steering belt, and alternator belt wrapped around fan, spent 4 hours trying to fix it, alt belt no prob, edc belt kept jumping as soon as i started it up, finally said fuck it, driving with no power steering, get 25 miles out, ran out of gas on the corner of bfe and you got a purdy mouth, at night, started walking with gas can, walked 2 miles, finally had someone help, had to backtrack, put gas in, got another 20 miles down rd, engine surging, had to stop twice and kill it to get it to run, finally found a town, called my bud from tulsa to come get me, only hotel room left in town is in shithole for $65, no choice, now bud's on his way, only prob is he's 17 hours away and now i'm here bitching on the computer. Whew. Sorry for the novel, but had to vent. Best part is, my boss is riding with me this coming week, so i absolutely have to be back by sunday night. Yay.

Damn dude. Thats shitty.

Driving without power steering sucks. I once lost the power steering belt in my uncles S10 Blazer with 44s on the freeway. Talk about scary.

Ok, update (sorry for being late). My buddy called about 1:30am to let me know he's on the way, but he does'nt have a trailer brake so he wants me to try to get past Cheyenne because after that it's pretty much straight (east Colorado and west Kansas), so i said i'd try. The next morning, i look for a mechanic or tire shop, to fill the air tanks (the dude put an air tool fitting so you can fill it with a regular quick connect air hose) because the ass is dragging pretty bad, no repair shops open, found 3 tire shops that let me try to fill the tanks, only problem is it takes about 180-200 psi to lift the back, and all the tire shops topped out at 150. So i start driving, and i guess air from the bags is back feeding into the tanks because the back end is dropping like crazy (no check valves i suppose), so i stop at a truck parking area and put the edc belt to at least get some air, i get it running with the belt flopping around, it gets me some air, so i lift the back about an inch or so, then it threw the belt again, i put it back on and held the tensioner (sp?) pulley on the belt with my hand, it ran for about 30 seconds and threw the belt again, i did this 4 times and finally got the back end up to where it was'nt scaring me and took off. I go about 4 miles, and it starts surging again. I pull over on the interstate and let it rest a little, start it up, and drive it another 5 miles, starts surging again. I pull over again, and repeat this for the next 30 or so miles until i get to a town. I call my buddy on the way from Tulsa, he said it sounds like a clogged fuel filter or fuel pump going out. So i took off the filter and used a bic pen (don't laugh, it works for a little bit if you need it to), it did'nt change anything. So he said it's probably the pump. Then he proceeds to tell me that the tranny on his work truck (what he's going to pull me with, i wanted him to bring the H2, but 14 mpg vs. 6 mpg, no contest since i'm paying for his gas) is puking fluid like crazy. He's got a Silverado 3500 with the duramax diesel that has a box on the back with all kinds of lockers for tools and stuff, it's a stick so the only way to put tranny fluid in is to take out the shifter and pour it in from the cab. He's not sure if it'll make it to Cheyenne, much less there and back. So anyway, i'm in town looking for an Auto Zone to try to find a pump, and i pass a Tow and Auto Service station with dudes talking outside. So i flipped around (not fun in a big ass Suburban with no power steering) and told the dude what was happening. He said it sounded like it was vapor locking (fuel line was too close to the manifold, the metal regulator and metal filter were getting too hot and turning the gas to vapor). So he rigged up a bracket out of a big piece of wire and gave me some extra line to get it far away from the motor. He also said (and this sounds crazy as hell, but it worked) to get wooden clothespins and stick them on the fuel line every 3 inches or so. They pinch the fuel line and act like fins on a radiator to dissipate heat. So he charged me $25 for that, but did'nt have any clothespins. So i drove 11 miles to the next town with a wal mart (no surging, YAY!!) and got some clothespins and stuck them on. Looks goofy as hell, but then i drove 130 miles to the next town with no problems at all (forgot to mention it has a 12 gallon fuel cell, and if anyone out there has not been to Wyoming, there's a decent sized town every 100 miles or so, so i had to stop at every one to fill up or top off). So i get to Cheyenne with no further problems except it rained most of the time (by the way, RainX Anti fog is just sugar water for all the good it did). Lots of fun wiping the fog off the windshield and getting soaked with the windows down.

So i get to Cheyenne to meet up with my buddy, he still does'nt know if it will make it back or not, but we loaded it and took off. The clutch would'nt engage unless you pumped it about 20 times after being on the interstate for a while, so we stopped at a couple of towns trying to find AZ or something to get tranny fluid. He put 8 quarts in in Denver, then another 2 when he got to Cheyenne (about 90 miles) so he wanted to try to find the leak. So we hit a car wash, washed off the underside and all we could figure was the seals on the case were leaking. So i bought him some hose repair kits (if needed), tranny line, and a case of fluid. We filled it up and drove about 2 hours, stopped at Denny's and ate, topped off the gas tanks and tranny fluid, (it's 1am Sunday morning now), and i drove to Witchita, Kansas while he slept (he'd been up 42 hours by this point, and by the time we got to Witchita, i'd had 9 hours of sleep in the last 4 days). So he drove the last 3 hours to Tulsa while i took a nap, we got to his house and unloaded it. I forgot to mention that the trailer he towed me with was barely big enough for the sub, i could'nt lay it out, both of the back wheels were sitting against the fenders, and i was afraid that it would leak down and the body would hit the fenders, but it did'nt leak a drop the whole way.

So i left Tulsa at 1:30 today, drove the whole way through OK in the pouring ass rain (it NEVER rains in August, but i guess like Mike said, God was raining shit on me this weekend) but had no problems mechanically, finally hit the state line in Arkansas and the rain and wind quit. Got 6 miles into AR and got pulled over by a state trooper (no problem, i had all paperwork, insurance cards, and a drive back tag in the back window, it was just funny that i drove through 2 states like this, then towed it through 3 states on a trailer with no tags (OK does not require trailer tags), then drove it the rest of the way through OK with no problem, finally get to my home state and get popped by a statie). So he asked me a bunch of questions which i was happy to answer, then let me go. So i got home at around 4:45pm today. Get home and the wife (who was bitching at me on the phone all weekend) starts looking at it and is pleasantly surprised that she likes it so much. So it turned out for the best. Sorry for the War and Peace novel, but i had to tell someone. It's a little rougher than i wanted interior wise, and there's definitely some things i have to fix right away, and it's going to be more work than i thought, but i think it's gonna be a hella payoff in the end. Thanks for all the comments, guys, sometimes you just have to blow off some steam. Now i get to sleep about 5 hours, get up and drive an hour to pick my boss up at the airport. Woo hoo.

And now for some visuals:

notice the clothespins?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention, the reason it's dirty and grimy as hell is because my buddy's truck puked tranny fluid all over it for 14 hours. I'm not complaining, though.
