I am getting ready to get a new rear end for the nissan and don't know if I should go with the standard Toyota rear or go with a 95 or newer Explorer rear end because it has disc brakes.
Anyone have any opinions, pro's-con's or otherwise about this for me? I am going to go pull it this weekend just not positive on which route I want to go.. But right now am leaning towards the explorer for the disc brakes.. Thanks!
go with the yota. the explorer rear end is wide as hell.
there are 2 cons that i hate about mine.
yota driveshaft doesnt come out in the middle of the rear end, but the nissan carrier bearing, is in the center of the truck.
my yota rear end, i'm assuming has a lower gear ratio then the stock nissan.. my rpms are a lot higher then a friends nissan with the same 205/40/17 tires but his is still a nissan rear.
other then that i love mine
The explorer rear end was a concern of mine.. But I had a ranger rear in mine in my stock frame so I figured it might be the same width, I will defenitly have to messure that than.
But with the gearing, I am using a rotary motor so I don't know what that will change.. My truck is a mutt.. lol..
I believe the Explorer rear end is 5" wider or so than a Ranger, there is always the option of upgrading the Ranger rear with disc brakes. I just forget which model rears this works with, but James will know for sure.
what rear disk brake kits are available for the ranger rear ends ?
my other question is when you put the yota rear end in the nissan what do you have to do to make the driveshaft work? do you have to cut it down or get a new one made? also does the nissan driveshaft bolt to the yota rearnd?
you need the very end portion of the yota driveshaft, take that and your nissan one to a driveshaft shop along with a measurement and they'll weld the yota portion to the nissan shaft..
