S-10 Door Jamb Switches for Dome Light?

Anyone know if those little push buttons in te door jamb are for switching power, or for switching ground?

Mine only have 1 wire going to one of the 2 prongs, so I was thinking just the way it is mounted through metal could ground it/then the switch is switching ground to the bulb..

But then I tested the lights wire, and it still has ground when I push the button.. so I started thinking maybe a previous owner disconnected the other prongs wire, and the switches could be for switching power..

Let me know!

That's what I thought, but..

Today I tested the white wire going up to the dome light (the ground that I THOUGHT was coming from the door switches) and even when I pushed in the door button with my finger.. the white wire still had continuity.

My red wire has no 12v either way so that's a problem on it's own (easy to fix though).. it's just figuring out how to actually switch the light on w/ the doors open that's bothering me since the light still had ground with the button pressed in

So that would cause the ground to stay constant, even with doors shut right? When the door is open and the button springs out, I see how the switch contacts.. but how would it still contact with the door closed (even with a worn sleeve) maybe I didn't look at it right.. Glad to hear it might be an easy fix!

That would fix one problem, other problem is no power at the red wire. I can always run a new 12v source to the red wire, but I'd still like to know why it has no power right now.. hmm..

depending on the year you have on i think the 98+ you can over ride the dome light with the button below the headlight switch that could aslo be your problem

I have the turn dial, where it dims your gauges.. and if you go a little farther it snaps and is *supposed* to turn dome on, but doesn't.. Well I tried testing the light's red wire with doors open/closed and no power.. I'll try with the switch on (I don't have a bulb) LOL

Check the fuse too, it may be blown.
