Well I'm not sure if I need to go to a rack and pinion or not, but the problem is I lowered the v8 to fit under a stock sonoma hood before I had the power steering pump. Now it hits and I'm not sure how much you can move the box and linkage without throwing off the alignment through the suspensions travel. If anyone has put a power rack on let me know some details or if you have any advise on moving the steering box I would greetly appreciate it.

Is there anyone out there?

You can move the box to the back of the truck and drive the steering from there if you want to. Off road trucks are always compromising the steering locations. If you want to attempt this, let me know and I will try to help as much as I can.

Max what about using a power rack maybe out of a thunderbird and mounting it closer to the crossmember, will the tie rod ends have to be modified only or is there alot more to it. Or do you mean what I think you mean!? hmmm.....

Assuming that you can find a rack that is the right width, you need to make sure that the inner tierods are near the same place they were stock. Obviously height wise, but front to back as well. The front to back position of the tierods is what creates Ackermann and moving those points can cause some really interesting issues.

That kit from unisteer is around $1000 and thats for a manual rack, speedway motorsports sells a power rack for $199 and I would have to buy hoses and outer tie rods then modify it like Max said. What to do, what to do? This is the price I pay, right, yall understand!? All because I don't want a cheesy cowl hood. HA

Cris the unisteer kit is a manual rack and pinion. If I ran a manual I wouldn't have a power steering pump to hit on the gear box. See my dilemma? I think I'm going to run a quick ratio manual box and yank the pump just to get on the road quicker. Maybe this winter I will think of something better or ship my truck to Max since he's the genius.
