ok so you wanna know whats the best way to put body filler on areas that you have shaved and whats a good primer? I think that is what you are trying to say. If so the best way to do bodywork after shaving something is lay down some fiberglass then sand that down with some gritty sand paper and then lay a layer of filler down. This gives the filler something to bond to. Alot of times I will mix some putty with the filler also.
As for a primer, if you are priming over bare metal use a self etching primer, if you are priming over your bodywork use a buff primer or something like that. Just remember buff primer is not a water proof primer so it is not meant to be left on for a long time.
I use duraglass, then bondo, then icing. I use 3M products cause that is what we have at work and I'm used to it.
keel why use fiberglass first , asking because i am in the same situation to start that process also
fiberglass has a really rough texture. It gives the filler something to bond to so it doesn't crack out. When you get done shaving something the metal is generally pretty smooth
I use duraglass, then rage gold, then 3M putty (I think its 3M) to fill the pin holes
Use evercoat products (rage or rage gold) You really shouldnt have a big enough dent or hole to be using fiberglass filler. Id try to stay away from that stuff. I use rage gold, then icing, then polyestor primer, then sealer/primer, then paint
Sorry if some dont agree, just not a fan of fiberglass filler. It is extremely hard to sand and if you properly weld the opening up you shouldnt need that stuff. Just good ol Rage.
No argument here to each there own. Everyone has there own style. I weld everything up solid but just prefer to use fiberglass first. It is not to much of a bitch to sand down if you hit it before it fully cures
duraglass can be sanded, but I grind it down w/an air grinder, or right before it gets to hard I hand sand it or block it w/36grit, then apply bondo, etc. I am a fan of the fiberglass filler because its water resistent. But everyone has there own ways, in my case I was tought by my dad and thats what he does, lol

When ever you have a weld seam, there is a slight chance of pin holes in the weld (this really comes into play welding thin sheetmetal one tack at a time). The fiberglass will seal any small holes, and the glass itself does not absorb water. Talc based fillers like rage spread over these small pinholes just adds another possible way your repair could fail. For the 20 min inconvience, it could save your pain job.
Also: make sure to completely weld in the filler plates. I see too many people with tacked in fillers covered with glass or bondo that wonder why there expensive paint job is fucked.
