Alright, so I'm talking to this guy about buying his Datsun, he says he rebuilt the 1.2l engine this past year, but that it blows a little blue smoke out the exhaust. He says it's because there's no muffler, it just stops after the cat...is this reasonable? Sounds like bad rings/valves or something to me, is it possible that not having full exhaust would cause blue smoke? I'm hoping I'm wrong and that it's possible...

blue smoke is oil.

if it smokes all the time, it's rings.
if it only smokes when you start it, it's valve guides/ seals.
either way, the motor has not been rebuilt. offer him half of what he's asking, at best.

Alright, thanks guys, I might go take a look at it soon. He's offering me $225 right now, we'll see...
