raising the gas tank on my 00 full size Chevy

The guy who had the truck before me drug the bottom of the gas tank bad. I am putting in a new tank tomorrow and wanted to know how some of you have made more clearance.

its kind of hard to tell but we just cut the two cross members and put some spacers under the front one and just raised the back one up a couple inches and welded it back to the inside frame rail

You could raise the x-members up about 2 inches, but if you want to rail it worry free either put it in the bed or get a fuel cell.

Thanks guys. The fuel cell is a winter project, I just picked up a used tank for 50 bucks to get me through this show season. I work at a bodysop so raising the crossmember the way you did will be a good fix for now. I have already fabricated a shield for it also so I should be fine until I put the fuel cell in this winter.

That is a bada** fuel cell. How much did it run you?

Thanks for the tip Vamos. I am right in the middle of raising the crossmember I just decided to take a break. I'm also welding on some drag blocks for a little more clearance. I know some of you will give me shi* for putting blocks on it but I figure the more clearance the better.

ya you know. im not one to hate on blocks, they can account for a little more fun sometimes
