okie doke so i just started mine tonite. got some pictures in my interior thread. i got the boards free and i got plenty of supply but i was wondering, when i drilled holes for my clips, it kinda tore the other side of the panel like it was paper. i measure out the clips to 1/2 for the big hole, and 3/16 for the slip hole. that bout right?

now i just wish i could draw out some flames that looked half decent.

If your not that good at drawing flames google "flames" and using the image tab. Once you find some that you like use Photoshop and outline the flame image that you found. Resize them what you want and print it. Then cut out your design. Buy some bristol board from the dollar store and lay out your printed flames. Then "trace" to size your printed image so there the right size for the panels. Cut that out and you now have a good flame template to work with.

I did have full size templates that I used to sell as a kit but it really didn't work out.

I work at lowes and we do sell that peice of hardware that you had on the door. I think this one is the smaller version, it may be available bigger.

Once the desired shape is achieved and sanded smooth just as you would body work. Depending if you are wanting to cover the panel with fabric or paint, you will need to prepare the surface accordingly. I used a black carpet type material and covered the entire panel except where the speaker mounts and then inserted the grill that came with the speaker to protect it from getting hit or kicked. Then reassemble the upper and lower portions of the door panel.

How do you attach the factory clips to your new door panel? I thought the original clips slid into pre-made slots on the door panel.

you just recreate the factory clip holes. Trace them onto your panel before you cut anything out. They are basically 2 holes (one maybe 1/2" and one 1/4") with a small slot that connects them. Use a drill bit for the 2 holes and then take your jig saw and cut the slot out. Try making them on a scrap piece of hardboard first as they can be a little bit tricky.
