engine swap cali smog laws

Anyone in cali with a motor swap gone around the smog laws or go with it. I want to go to a v-8 and would rather run a carbed 350 than FI. But for smog it has to be same year or newer motor of the vehicle. What other options would be easier to go with the smog, Lt1, FI 302, turbo rotary???
