Rear end gearing...

I have an 88 pick up.. its a 2.3 with a 5 speed.. im trying to find out if i can change the gearing or just the rear end.. at like 80 my rpm is at 4500.. and thats not good when you like going to shows out of state. if anyone can help me i would much appreciate it..
