aftermartket tach question

i am in the process of updating my dash with all autometer gauges in my 99 dodge neon. i do have a msd replacement coil. after hooking up the tach signal wire it reads a little low. will the autometer tach adapter pn/9117 bring this back up to reading correctly. thanks.

my buddy got an srt and he said that its a must to install it just for that reason..good luck
