Use Buna-N rubber. You can get gasket sheet and rings from www.mcmaster.com.

On the 97 ranger in my profile I cut a 1/2" aluminum ring with tapped holes. The ring is welded to the cell. The pump sits on the ring with the gasket in between, and another 1/8 thick ring clamps it all together.

If you need rings cut let me know.

i did it on my s-10. theres a big oring that sits below the tank surface and makes the seal. i cut the formed section out from the stock tank and tig welded it into my new tank. then used gas tank sealer and coated the tank on the inside.

I took the stock fuel pump out of a nissan apart and used it as an inline fuel pump. just connect the hoses to the right sides and put a fuel filter before the pump. It works great. and it's been 2 years now.
