Run a power cable from your altenator to the second battery and a ground to the frame then run power to what ever you want to run off of it . Or you can run it in line with your first battery. What it sounds like is a need for a high output altenator not realy a extra battery

the above drawing is correct, even though it has way too much information an it. All you will need to get is what they call a "Battery Isolator" which is represented by the first 100a relay in the picture. You can pick on of these up at a stereo shop or shopp ebay or something like that. Stinger makes a good one that is also cheap. The isolator will keep your factory charging system working as intended and makes the second battery totally isolated, meaning if you are adding the battery for the stereo you lights wont dim, and if you are adding for compressors even if they run all night long, your factory battery will still have plent juice to start the car.
This is the right way to do it if you are going to add a battery.

i would also try an isolater as mentioned above, i was told by an electric shop to use one as well. they said it will also keep other items in the car that are not hooked directly to the second battery from draining power from it.

so the isolator allows the alt to charge both batteries, but the extra one would only get drained in the case of your comps running all night a long as they are hooked up to the 2nd battery
